The Arab World Observatory for Democracy and Elections welcomed the developments that came in the statement issued by the factions’ meeting in Cairo, and considers that the achievements achieved in this important dialogue are in addition to the achievements achieved on the path to building national partnership through democratic mechanisms, and moving forward in the electoral process that was launched after The President’s issuance of the presidential decree on the elections, and the Elections Commission setting the timetable. What was achieved in the dialogue gives the electoral process momentum and ends the state of doubt that some were trying to spread.

Based on what was achieved in the dialogue, the Observatory calls for:

1. Issuing a presidential decree at the Election Cases Court with the start of the voter registration process.

2. Issuing a presidential decree amending the General Elections Law No. 1 of 2007 and its amendments, with regard to lowering the nomination age, the women’s quota, and the issue of resignations.

3. Commitment to what has been agreed upon regarding freedoms.

4. Fortifying the agreement with legal mechanisms.

5. Intensifying work with all societal groups and encouraging them to participate in the electoral process, especially the youth segment.

6. Agreeing on and signing a charter of honor, and forming a leadership body from civil society institutions, factions, and parties to ensure compliance with the provisions of the charter.

7. Issuing a presidential decree specifying the percentage of Christian citizens on electoral lists.
